This Privacy Notice applies to the Group’s US operations and explains how we may use information we collect about you (your “Personal Information”). Types of Personal Information we collect

In the past 12 months, we may have collected the following categories of Personal Information:

  • • Identifiers, such as your name, address, IP address, and contact information;
  • • Customer records, such as payment details;
  • • Information on protected characteristics, such as gender;
  • • Commercial information, such as transaction history;
  • • Internet activity, such as information about how you use our services and websites (including browsing history and search history);
  • • Appliance registration data (including photos to help us understand product issues); and
  • • Sensitive Personal Information, including information that allows access to a payment account.

Sources of Personal Information

We receive Personal Information directly from you, from appliance manufacturers and retailers, and from the servicing companies with which we work.

Using your information

Domestic & General USA Services LLC, and, in Florida and in Washington, Domestic & General USA Inc., are generally the "data controller" of Personal Information we receive from you. In some cases, we process Personal Information on behalf and at the direction of others, such as appliance manufacturers for which we administer requests for registration of warranties and other services and in such circumstances, we are a “data processor”.

We’ll use your information:

  • • as necessary to fulfil our contract with you, including performing services, processing requests, verifying your information, and processing payments, including to recover any amounts you owe;
  • • for our legitimate interests in managing our relationship with you, including undertaking marketing (about our products and services and those of our third party partners) by mail, telephone, email and/or other electronic messaging services; market research; customer surveys; printing services; checking and verifying your identity and contact details; recording your conversations for training, quality and compliance purposes; undertaking internal research, and to improve our products and services; for auditing related to interactions with you, analytics and profiling for marketing purposes; for security, detecting and preventing crime, including fraud; debugging to identify and repair errors; managing the Group’s needs, such as for compliance and ethics, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and risk management;
  • • for compliance with our legal obligations and defense of claims; and
  • • with your consent in some circumstances.

We may have used your personal information for any of the purposes described above in the past twelve months.

Sharing your information

From time to time your Personal Information and information about your product may also be shared with other members of the Group, and with companies acting on our behalf or providing services to us for business purposes. Affiliated third parties that may receive your Personal Information include companies we use to provide repairs, IT, mailing, and billing services, storage of paper records, and telecommunications and equipment manufacturers for which we provide warranty registration services. We also may share your Personal Information in the course of mergers or acquisitions or with law enforcement agencies in compliance with law. We do not disclose Personal Information to non-affiliated third parties except as permitted by law.

We may have shared any of the categories of Personal Information described above with these third parties in the past 12 months.

We do not sell your Personal Information.

We do not share your Personal Information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, also known as targeted advertising.

Transferring your information

Your Personal Information may be transferred to other countries, which may have data protection laws that are different than your home country or state, including from the US to the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area (EEA), where Personal Information receives strong legal protection. Where we may transfer Personal Information from the EEA to the US, we have put in place standard contractual clauses as an appropriate safeguard to help ensure that such information is adequately secured and that such transfers meet the requirements of applicable data protection law.

Securing your information

We are committed to the security of your Personal Information and to providing a reliable customer interface. We maintain a comprehensive information security program to help protect the security, confidentiality, and integrity of Personal Information we process and to help ensure that your Personal Information is protected against unauthorized access. Our program includes application of appropriate physical, technical, and administrative safeguards; periodic assessments; monitoring; and oversight.

Keeping your information

We keep information related to your service contract for 10 years after the termination of your contract for the reasons set forth in the “Using your information” section above. We also keep your information to send you marketing materials until and unless we receive a request from you to opt-out of marketing.

All other records containing personal information are maintained as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to Domestic & General's legal and business obligations.

Access to your Personal Information

Consumers in the UK or EU may request:

  • • A copy of the Personal Information provided to us to be sent in a commonly used format;
  • • To update or correct Personal Information to keep it accurate;
  • • To delete Personal Information from our records if it is no longer needed for the original purposes, as described in this Privacy Notice;
  • • To restrict the processing of Personal Information in certain circumstances;
  • • To opt out of certain processing of Personal Information, such as for sale, profiling, or targeted advertising; and
  • • Where we rely on consent, to withdraw that consent at any time.

Where applicable, consumers in certain states may also request:

  • • The categories of Personal Information collected in the last 12 months;
  • • The categories of sources from which Personal Information was collected in the last 12 months;
  • • The categories of recipients of Personal Information in the last 12 months;
  • • The business or commercial purposes for which Personal Information was collected and used in the past 12 months;
  • • To delete your Personal Information from our records in certain circumstances;
  • • To correct your personal information; and
  • • To opt-out of certain purposes of processing sensitive Personal Information, such as for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.

Please note that the above rights are not absolute and certain exemptions apply to them. If we are unable to comply with your request, we will provide you with a reason why.

How to make requests related to your Personal Information

We may ask for additional information to authenticate your identity prior to responding to your request. Any information we collect as part of this process will be used for verification purposes only.

Please note that we may decline requests that are excessive or abusive in nature, or requests for Personal Information more than twice during a 12-month period. We will endeavor to respond to your request promptly and within the time frame specified by law, usually 45 days. If we require more time, we will provide you with a reason for the extension in writing.

Where permitted by law, you may also have authorized agents make requests on your behalf.
