When you buy an appliance, you'll sometimes find a sticker on it urging you to register it. It’s something most manufacturers do. All you need are the make and model numbers, and it doesn’t even need to be brand-new. It can be second-hand. Some manufacturers will even allow you to register appliances that are up to 12 years old.
“But what’s the point?” Good question. Is there actually any benefit to simply letting the manufacturer know that you own one of their products? The answer is yes. Here’s why:
1. You’ll get updates on safety issues
The main reason to register your appliance is to get any safety updates. Manufacturers will be able to let you know if your appliance has a known fault. Of course, this rarely happens. But if it does, it means they can arrange repairs, recalls, or just give you any important updates. By proactively registering, you’ll deal with any potential safety concerns quickly – keeping your home and family safe.
2. You might get some extra perks
Registering your appliance could come with some hidden advantages. You might get an extension to your guarantee, a special offer, a free gift, cash back, downloadable manuals, access to exclusive customer service… the list goes on. But you won’t know unless you register.
3. It’s quick, easy and free
The last point is that it only takes a few minutes to register online, and you don’t have to pay anything for it. All you need to do is follow these simple steps:
- Find the model and serial numbers – they’re usually on the front, inside the door or on a label on the back of the appliance
- Visit the manufacturer’s website – go to the official website of the appliance brand
- Fill out the registration form – enter your contact details and the appliance model and serial numbers
- Submit and confirm – submit the form and wait for a confirmation email, which might include more info about your appliance’s warranty and any offers.
By following these steps, you can stay informed of any important safety updates and any hidden benefits. So if you’ve got an appliance that you haven’t got around to registering yet – make yourself a cuppa and do it now. What have you got to lose?
