About us

Protecting appliances at the heart of every home

We’re Domestic & General, and we look after the things people rely on every day to keep their homes running. In fact, we protect, repair and care for millions of products and appliances each year – from fridges and washing machines, to TVs and boilers.

Operating across the UK, Europe, the US and Australia, we work with some of the world’s top appliance and electrical product brands. We’ve been in business since 1912, and we’re always looking ahead… So whatever’s next, we’ve got it covered.

What we cover

Our customers depend on us to protect and repair some of the most important products and appliances around their homes. Here’s a snapshot of what we cover:

• Kitchen appliances (like fridges and washing machines)
• Boilers, heat pumps and radiators
• Plumbing and drainage
• Electrical products (like TVs and audio equipment)

If you don’t already have a protection policy with us and something breaks, that’s where Repair
& Care comes in. Under this type of plan, we’ll fix your product first – and then help keep it
running.

WHO WE TEAM UP WITH

Working with top brands

Some of the world’s best-known appliance manufacturers and retailers trust us to protect their products. Brands like John Lewis, Argos, AO and Whirlpool (to name a few).

Our protection is designed to work seamlessly alongside the guarantee (or warranty) that they provide. Ultimately, we help these brands keep their customers happy – and their products running for longer.

Our network of approved engineers

Thousands of engineers make up our repair network, serving all regions of the UK. Some work with major names like Whirlpool – others are independent repair shops.

Together, they carry out millions of repairs each year on people’s essential products and appliances.

How we select our engineers

Our engineers must pass strict checks on their skills, safety and efficiency.

To work with gas appliances, engineers must be Gas Safe registered and earn a certificate every 5 years from the ACS Gas Scheme.

For non-gas appliances, they need the industry-recognised qualifications for their area.

We also carry out health and safety audits of all engineers before welcoming them onboard.

For people, planet and progress

xx
  • Helping limit climate change

We’ve committed to reducing our carbon footprint in line with science-based targets. This starts with cutting our own emissions. On top of that, we’re finding ways to help our customers and partners be kinder to the planet too.

  • Championing the circular economy

Our ethos is ‘repair first’. That means a longer life for appliances (and not as many going to landfill). We encourage our customers to recycle appliances if they can’t be fixed. And we’re also exploring the environmental benefit of refurbished products.

  • Caring for our people and communities

We’re always pushing for an inclusive culture that empowers everyone to achieve their potential. In fact, 80% of our people say Domestic & General is a great place to work (compared to 54% at a typical UK company). Collectively – and as individuals – we’re also passionate about engaging with the wider community (wherever we’re based). And volunteering is a big focus for our local teams.
